Institute of Astronomy

We will cover the discovery of strange radio sources in the sky which were eventually traced to line up with super-bright, star-like pinpoints of light, and how the source of the energy for these things was eventually figured out. If the skies are clear, we'll also go outside to the telescopes!

About The Event

As the evenings are starting to get warmer, if the sky is clear we will take the opportunity to do some observing through the Northumberland telescope and amateur telescopes this evening.  We will start the session with two talks about Quasars, but will then head up to the observatory lawn for part 2.  If the skies are cloudy we will stay in the theatre and watch a planetarium show to look at what we would have seen through the telescopes.  Remember to bring your coats, gloves and hats so that you can stay warm if we go outside.
