Institute of Astronomy

Cosmologists spend their time trying to answer big questions. How did the Universe as we know it begin? How will it end? Is our Universe just one small part of a larger “multiverse"? If it is, how could we find out?

About The Event

In this talk, our speaker Dr Alex Jenkins, will discuss a radical new approach to tackling these questions: using quantum physics to create “mini Universes” in the lab, allowing us to carry out direct tests of the first moments after the Big Bang. He will describe how he and his collaborators are working to bring these experiments to fruition, and what they might teach us about the nature of our Universe.

Alex is a Research Fellow in the Department of Physics & Astronomy, Faculty of Maths & Physical Sciences at UCL
