About The Event
Earth will experience a partial solar eclipse that will be visible from parts of Europe, western Asia, and northeast Africa. For us here in Cambridge the eclipse will begin at 10:08 a.m. BST when the Moon first begins its passage in front of the Sun and will end nearly two hours later at 11:51 a.m. The maximum coverage of the Sun will be at 10:59am when around 25% of the sunlight will be blocked." The CAA will be set up with a range of special telescopes and devices to allow you to observe this event safely and watch as the Moon makes its way across the disc of the Sun. You may even be able to see sunspots, and prominances errupting from the Sun to add to the interest. Members are welcome to bring their own telescopes to the event on the Northberland lawn but please note that ALL instruments must be checked for safety and approved by one of the CAA comittee members who are authorised to give permission for them to be used due to the inherent dangers of looking at the Sun. No equipment is to be left unattended at any time, nor to be used by any member of the public without supervision of its operator who must have obtained the above mentioned authorisation to use it first. The authorised CAA committee members who can approve equipement are Paul Fellows and Brian Lister.
