

Solar eclipse event

A partial solar eclipse is taking place this morning. At maximum (at 11:04), approx. 42% of the sun will be covered. From Cambridge, first contact is at 10:08, so together with the Institute, we'll be setting up solar telescopes to observe the cycle from the start. through to the end at 12:02

About The Event
The main event today is to see the solar eclipse and we will have telescopes set up to allow SAFE viewing of the event. We will also be obtaining some eclipse glasses to allow some direct observation as well. The Institute of Astronomy are also advertising the event and will be opening up the historic telescopes for use as well, so it is likely to be very busy
In addition, we hope to be able to show our young astronomers how to make pinhole cameras so that they can observe the event using their own devices. Please bring a cardboard box and some white card if you want to do this. Our ability to do this will depend on how many volunteers we have and how busy the event is.
